white birds are perched on a tree
like bolls of cotton.

They chatter, awkwardly,  
like step-sisters
recently reunited.

Yesterday
while coming back home,
my plane got into an argument with a cloud
about health insurance premiums.

I have replaced
the mirror in my living room
with a cube of sugar.
